The process engineer position is responsible for determining operations to produce products and develops processes to ensure quality, cost and efficiency requirements are met. This position troubleshoots problems with production and takes corrective action. Provide technical manufacturing support for cost improvement and new product integration for the manufacturing operations in Protein Processing in North America. Directs / coordinates all activities of the Production (factory floor) department ensuring that production schedules are achieved along with cost and quality targets. This will be accomplished through the effective application of all resources including people, equipment, supplies and time.
Essential Duties and Percent of Time Spent:
Oversees all activities of the Production department ensuring that production schedules are achieved along with cost and quality targets. Ensures the effective utilization of equipment and personnel and maximizes the efficiency and productivity of the operation.
Ensures quality output by coordinating / optimizing manufacturing processes and minimizing / eliminating defects.
Interfaces with other JBT functional areas including Planning, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality Control and Accounting in order to obtain and share information relating to production standards, Engineering specifications, tooling, routing, schedules, etc.
Lead cross functional teams to implement processes, methods, and procedures as required to resolve product issues related to functionality, quality, or reliability.
Monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements as well as by collecting and interpreting data from other technical and operating personnel.
Work with shop personnel to develop SOP’s for machine assemblies
Use process improvement tools and problem solving skills to identify and implement cost/cycle time improvements on shop floor.
Use various Industrial Engineering techniques to contribute to projects. Maintain MRR’s, job safety practices, and other work standards as applicable.
Knowledge and Skills:
A B.S. Degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering.
Must indicate demonstrated effectiveness in:
Ability to identify and implement cost containment or cost improvement initiatives. Must be a team player and promote teamwork. Must have demonstrated leadership skills and be able to gain employee involvement.
Good oral and written skills. Ability to adapt to changing priorities; anticipates needed corrections and implement corrective actions.
Production supervision experience with knowledge of in a manufacturing job shop environment is desired. Demonstrated ability to supervise others
Proven experience in constraint management, Kaizen or other process improvement techniques is desired.
