    Purpose:

    The Director of Engineering manages engineering resources, product documentation, testing qualifications, technical documentation, engineering change control and issuance of engineering documents and drawings. Participates with the JBT FoodTech management team to help set business strategies and tactics and assure the proper engineering support for the business objectives.  Able to convey the business strategies and vision to a large group of technical staff in order to drive continuous improvement.  Driven to meet customer demands for new and creative equipment solutions.

     

    Essential Duties and Percent of Time Spent:

    Manages Engineering Teams that are responsible for developing and maintaining multiple product lines of equipment.

    50%

    Communicates business priorities and project requirements to departmental management team and ensures that team members understand and are committed to meeting or exceeding customer expectations.   Ensures that members are functioning as a unit and are integrated around the performance of the team.

    30%

    Trains, monitors, and coaches team member to improve skill level, to ensure adherence to principles and standards and to improve safety quality and process reliability in a cost-effective manner.   Facilitates communication, problem resolution and provides appropriate feedback, both positive and corrective within the team.

    10%

    Develops and maintains engineering standards and specifications for equipment.

    5%

    Provides continuous feedback to employees concerning performance, set clear objectives (both short and long term) and complete annual written appraisals.

    5%

     

    Occasional Responsibilities:

    Performs other duties as assigned.  

      

    Requirements: Knowledge and Skills/Experience:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

     

    Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Professional Engineering Designation preferred. Ten years related engineering experience. Applicable experience includes engineering, understanding of the design process, and design for manufacturing, reliability engineering, finite element analyses, heat transfer, and associated research with at least five years of management supervision experience. Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D modeling. FEA analysis, a plus.  Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently a must.

     

    Scope of Responsibility/Accountability:

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

     

    Financial Responsibility:

    Responsible for Engineering Budget. The job requires innovation, exploring design alternatives and evaluating trade-offs.

    Work Environment:

    Primarily an office environment with frequent sitting and work at a computer (repetitive mouse clicks, typing, etc.) May have some time in both our own and our suppliers shop environment with reaching, crawling, and some lifting.   Required to travel to customer facilities and other JBT sites in an effort to address customer equipment applications, both domestic and international.

     

    Physical Demands:

    Limited lifting and pushing as associated with office environment. Frequent sitting, and work on a computer. Lift up to 50lbs. Production environments including high heat and humidity as well as low temperatures.
