  • Overview

    This position is responsible for international inbound and outbound freight logistics. Responsibilities include evaluating transport suppliers, preparing appropriate documentation and considering cost and delivery requirements. This position also works with various departments to maintain up-to-date coding within the business system and develop enhancements that streamline operational processes.


    Work Environment

    -Office environment with frequent trips to the shop and to other offices in the plant. Some exposure to possible shop hazards including high noise, heavy machinery and shop traffic.  Fast paced environment with repetitive transactions.  Multiple priorities and constant change. 

    -Travel up to 10% of the time.



    Training Requirements

    JBT Operating Procedures, Quality & Safety Training. Basic Materials Management/Planning Techniques and concepts. PC software including spreadsheet and word processing, print interpretation, negotiation skills training. May perform more advanced functions as part of training and development.



    Works with limited direct supervision. Performs regular analysis and maintains logistics procedures in response to business and transportation industry changes. Able to adapt quickly to perform other roles within Operations department with little instruction and oversight. Regularly interfaces with Materials and Production departments, Engineering, and Project teams when making decisions requiring judgment or resolving issues requiring creative solutions. Able to make assessments about compliance issues, recommend thorough solutions, and take initiatives to address those issues with little direct input from supervisors. Reviews the work of others for accuracy.


    Physical Demands

    • Spends 100% of time in shop environment. Exposure to occasional high noise levels. May work with high-pressure equipment and chemicals. May be subject to inclement weather conditions.
    • Physical demands include ability to bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, reach above shoulders, walk and lift up to 50 pounds throughout the shift. May carry materials up to 50 pounds for distances up to 20’.  

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Works closely within the Operations and Sales groups to coordinate inbound and outbound freight schedules through participation in regular project meetings.

    Assists with the project team effort to synchronize project priorities.

    Mitigates potential problems meeting project deadlines through proactive efforts to arrange transportation and prepare documentation. This frequently requires coordination with JBT locations internationally to troubleshoot problems and facilitate resolutions.

    Negotiates cost effective transport rates with contract carriers for international shipments.

    Analyzes and evaluates quotes to determine carrier selection.

    Maintains shipping document files per the JBT standard record retention policy.

    Maintains operating procedures in compliance with import/export regulations.

    Actively support on-going efforts to improve systems and processes.


    • BA or BS in business, supply chain, operations, or related field required.
    • Minimum five years international traffic experience with a multinational business, preferably an equipment manufacturing company.
    • Must have a working knowledge of import and export procedures, rate tariffs, US free trade agreements and hazardous materials.
    • Must demonstrate negotiation, planning, and interpersonal skills to interact with suppliers, internal/external customers, freight forwarders and carriers.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high volume environment.      
    • PC skills including proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing applications required.
    • Must have an understanding of ERP systems and on-line shipping tools.
