    Today, JBT Corporation’s AeroTech Division is a world leader in the supply of airport equipment and services focused on the future.  At our Orlando, Florida facility we manufacture airport ground support equipment, including aircraft deicers, aircraft tow tractors, cargo loaders and transporters.  


    As a Fabrication Weld Specialist with JBT AeroTech, you will responsible for various types of weld preparation, welding and weld finishing operations to manufacture equipment to customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction by using specific welding techniques and weld experience, advanced skills, and judgment to complete. Specific duties included:

    • Designs, fabricates, joins, and/or repairs equipment, fixtures and various types of metal objects and structures using MIG, TIG, Inner shield, and Flux-cored Arc Welding (Dual shield) techniques.
    • Determines layout of weld parts according to drawings and company/customer requirements.
    • Welds according to JBT AeroTech specifications. Applies specialized skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment in area of expertise.
    • Executes welds in all positions including from underneath, to the side, in a variety of shapes such as in a tube, and more.
    • Assists during welding of components in areas of expertise. Teaches other welders proper techniques and procedures for mastered key weldments.
    • Assists with design and set-up of work centers.
    • Troubleshoots problems, identifies and communicates design discrepancies. Identifies and suggests design improvements.
    • Completes required weld documentation including line check sheets, and material movement paperwork.
    • Moves weldment to the next process verifying it meets JBT AeroTech specifications.
    • Uses material handling equipment to move parts, components, and weldments from one work or storage area to another as required.
    • Recommends improvements to Weldment Procedures. May draft new procedures as assigned.
    • Performs all duties in a safe manner and keeps all employees aware of dangers in work area.
    • Practices good housekeeping in work area.
    • Responsible for understanding and following all Hazardous Waste Management duties and responsibilities.
    • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.



    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Technical / vocational / or military training or related experience.
    • Four or more years weld experience with at least two years’ experience in a similar environment.

    Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

    • Appropriate welding certifications, problem solving ability, crane and jib certification, and appropriate moving vehicle certifications.


    Specialized Knowledge, Equipment, and Applications:

    • Knowledge of welding techniques including MIG, TIG, Inner shield, and Flux-cored Arc Welding (Dual shield). Aluminum MIG is a plus.
    • Ability to comprehend all engineering blueprints and written Engineering procedures.
    • Demonstrated ability in troubleshooting and design discrepancy identification.
    • Proficient in all key weldments.
    • Ability to use personal computer or workstation.
    • Demonstrate ability to use all appropriate tools, measuring devices, forklifts, cranes, and fixtures required.
    • Ability to suggest design improvements.
    • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate personnel assignments within the department.
    • Effectively communicate and solve issues that cross departmental boundaries.


    Special Information (Travel required, physical requirements, work environment, supervisor responsibilities, safety and so on):

    Work Environment- Weld Shop environment, occasionally outside, and in test.

    Physical Demands- Constant standing and handling and grasping of welding devices, grinder, hand tools, and more. Frequent walking, lifting, and bending. 

    Supervisor Responsibilities- No direct reports, but assists in orienting, training, assigning, and checking the work of less experienced employees.

    Type of Supervision Position works under: (close, moderate, minimal) -Works under general supervision. Relies on experience, judgment, and advanced skills to plan and accomplish assigned goals. Under reasonable circumstances, accountable for daily schedule dates. Resolves questions and problems with weldments and communicates potential delays to Group Team Lead or Team Manager. Forwards appropriate material issues to the Scheduler.

    Errors- Most of work is not subject to direct check. Possible errors may be serious, involving losses such as damage to equipment, waste of material, late delivery, etc.

    Relationship Responsibilities- Interfaces with all functional areas involved with weld to troubleshoot, communicate, and resolve issues. Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.  May communicate with customer or vendors, usually with supervision, during on-site inspections.

    Maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards by properly using protective equipment, safe operation of all machinery, tools, and equipment as well as following safety rules at all times.
