  • Overview

    The role of the Technical Service Advisor is to constantly strive to improve the quality of our customers’ arrivals. This can be accomplished by ensuring the best possible performance of JBT’s cleaners, fungicides, and coating products. The Technical Service Advisor also needs to conduct technical service in a way that supports the Fresh Fruit Preservation product line (Sales, Service, and customers in the CA/AZ market) regarding technical issues on the post harvest handling of Fresh Fruit/Vegetables.

     

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Provide routine bi-weekly, on average, visits to customer facilities to check and maintain JBT’s washing and application systems. Make recommendations that maintain or improve the quality of JBT’s protective coatings or processes.
    • Monitor packinghouse sanitation with monthly spore assays. Work with senior TSAs to develop fungicide strategies for each packinghouse.
    • Monitor each packinghouse for; aging inventory, re-packing operations, and general fruit conditions. With the support of senior TSAs, make decay control and sanitation program recommendations.
    • Monitor the customer’s degreening process. With the support of senior TSAs, make recommendations for improvement.
    • Participate in equipment surveys to learn about identifying and correcting areas in the packinghouse that cause fruit damage or other process issues.
    • Respond to unplanned events / solve customer technical problems as needed or as directed by Account Manager or supervisor.
    • Review the need for training/seminars to customers on decay control, degreening, sanitation, and/or other topics. Provide training as needed or upon Account Manager’s request.
    • Participate in competitive wax demonstrations to learn about Tech Service’s role and what is important to measure and observe during demonstrations.
    • Provide seamless Technical Service by being a back up team member in any of the CA/AZ territories.
    • Be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of JBT products vs. the competition by evaluating our competitors’ product performance at the port, packing houses and markets.
    • With the assistance of senior TSAs, anticipate seasonal trends and warn customers, account managers and technical colleagues of the possible impacts and mitigation measures needed to avoid problems.
    • Learn about JBT’s technical and product advantages to gain and maintain our position in the citrus fresh fruit market.
    • Understand FPT’s Food Safety process and be part of the customer’s Food Safety team. With the assistance of senior Tech Advisors, provide all necessary Food Safety documents/labels to the service technician and packinghouse coordinators.
    • Maintain PCA license and any necessary county endorsements.
    • Learn procedures and importance of calibration of chemical treatments and measurement of applications.
    • Regularly monitor wax performance for shine consistency throughout the season.

    Qualifications

     

     

    Mandatory:

    BS or BA in Agriculture, Biology, Horticulture or related scientific field.

    Basic command of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook

    Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    Must hold a CA Pest Control Advisor’s license at time of employment or within 12 months of employment

     

    Preferred: 

    Course work in postharvest physiology and pathology, citrus science or postharvest technology.

    Experience handling chemicals & working w/ postharvest chemical application systems.

    Customer service experience

    Postharvest and/or citrus related work experience
