    Responsibilities

     

     

    PURPOSE

     The purpose and function of this position is to ensure the success of the John Bean Technologies’ Baggage Handling ventures from a controls perspective. This function includes troubleshooting/repair, modifying, and programming hardware and software for baggage handling or associated automation projects, particularly from our extensive Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contracts. This roll includes minor engineering and review/development of scopes of work, coordination with other engineers or contractors, completing the associated paperwork (including CCRs), coordinating onsite functions with the team and project manager, verifying that all materials/parts/equipment/tools are onsite as required, providing oversight for contactors and ensuring all associated work is done in a safe, craftsman-like manner according to schedule (minimizing impact to customers) while maximizing profit margin and following the contract and documented expectations.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    • This will vary from site/project (including but not limited to):

      Develop budgets and utilize/document in an efficient manner.

      Ensure project work is being provided in an environmentally responsible and safe manner.

      Must document work being performed and keep a detailed log of outstanding issues & progress.

      Interface and engage contractors to provide quotes/proposals and perform the required scope of work.

      Responsible for liaising with customers including operations and project management.

      Responsible for completion of projects and special assigned work.

      Responsible for ensuring and utilizing time effectively and efficiently.

      Responsible for training, mentoring, and following up with staff and subcontractors.

      Responsible for following the rules set forth in the employee handbook 

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and work in small spaces. Ladder and lift work required. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Good hand and eye coordination is required.

     

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Active airport operation with vehicular traffic, lift/ladder/rooftop type work. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical power, high/precarious places; and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  

    Qualifications

     POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • High school diploma or GED; 4-year college degree preferred.

      Must have a thorough understanding of baggage handling systems/airport maintenance and construction.

      Must be proficient with Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC5/SLC/ControlLogix) including hardware, Rs-Logix 5/500/5000 software and ControlFlash and associated revisions/firmware.

      Siemens/Modicon/Beckhoff PLC experience a plus.

      Must understand local and distributed IO and associated networks (DeviceNet, ControlNet, Ethernet IP, etc.)

      Must be proficient with Variable Frequency Drives (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, etc.) and other equipment used in a baggage handling environment.

      Must understand the over controls (ladder logic/PID/bit and functions) arrangement and be able to coordinate communication to Graphical User Interfaces and databases for reporting.

      Must be able to complete CBIS Change Request Forms and coordinate with TSA Personnel.

      Must be able to use ladders and personal lifts and access underground areas, catwalks and rooftops.

      Must be computer literate and possess PC skills with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, project tracking software, as-built drawings and prints, and presentations.

      Must have a thorough knowledge of computers and internal components as well as operating systems.

      Must have a thorough understanding of networking, IP addressing/subnets, DHCP, TCP-IP and Ethernet networks.

      Must be a self-starter and able to manage time, workload and communication (verbal and written) effectively.

      Must have a valid US Drivers License, and the ability to pass an FAA/Customs Security Background Checks

      Must possess a passport and be willing to travel as necessary for projects.
