John Bean Technologies Corporation and its predecessor companies have a long history of technical innovation. JBT traces its roots to 1884 when inventor John Bean developed a new type of spray pump to combat San Jose scale in California's orchards.

Today, JBT Corporation’s AeroTech Division is a world leader in the supply of airport equipment and services focused on the future.  At our Orlando, Florida facility we manufacture airport ground support equipment, including aircraft deicers, aircraft tow tractors, cargo loaders and transporters.  

 

As a Quality Control Specialist with JBT AeroTech, you will perform and verify visual, dimensional, electrical, and mechanical inspection functions relating to source, first article, receiving, in process, final check and test operations using company supplied drawings, equipment, procedures, and work instructions.

Specific duties include: 

  • Analyze and interpret blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas, and measuring instruments required.
  • Discard or reject products on materials and equipment not meeting specification to ensure consistent quality standards.
  • Inspect, test or measure materials, products, installations, and/or work to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Record inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, or grades and quantities inspected or graded to verify conformance to standards.
  • Observe and monitor production operations and equipment to ensure conformance to specifications and shop practices and order necessary process or assembly adjustments.
  • Analyze test data and make computations as necessary to determine test results.
  • Notify supervisors and other personnel of production problems, and assist in identifying and correcting these problems to reduce defects.
  • Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products and recommend necessary corrective actions to maintain or improve standards of quality.
  • Mark items with details such as grade and acceptance or rejection status so items can be easily identified and processed.
  • Uses measuring instruments such as tape measures, gauges, calipers, micrometers or other devices to verify conformity to standards of components and assemblies
  • Monitors compliance to the ISO 9001 business system and ensures action is taken to address noncompliance when identified.
  • Follow Safety, Health, Environment, and Hazardous Waste Rules and Responsibilities.
  • Conduct in process audits of products and work with product team members to implement corrective actions to eliminate repetitive non-conformances.
  • Conduct unit inspections per specifications and record non-conformances in a Windows based program.
  • Participate in Customer inspections and document suggestions and findings in Windows based program.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED. Associates degree or greater preferred.
  • Technical / vocational / or military training or related experience is helpful.
  • Typically has eight or more years manufacturing experience with at least four years experience in a similar environment.
  • At least 6 months working with heavy mobile equipment in a manufacturing environment.

Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

Additional Training: Understand and use Syteline and Syteline QCS for the purpose of documenting non-conformances, corrective action requests, and performing material transactions.  Ability to integrate quality processes into daily work activities resulting in continuous improvement and zero defects.

 

Specialized Knowledge, Equipment, and Applications:

  • Use of personal computer/workstation; ERP-Syteline, QCS.

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Conducting tests and inspections of products, services or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Ability to interpret engineering blueprints and the symbols.
  • Knowledge of content and structure of English language and understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Effective time management.

 

OTHER INFORMATION

Special Information (Travel required, physical requirements, work environment, supervisor responsibilities, safety and so on)

Work Environment- A climate controlled warehouse environment with high noise levels and a presence of heavy equipment. Parts and finished goods inspections can take place outdoors.  Will include working outside in all weather conditions possibly for extended periods of time.

Physical Demands- Occasional bending, kneeling, climbing ladders/stairs and stooping.  Occasional pushing and pulling (< 40 lb.).  Frequent lifting, carrying and handling objects (<25lb.).  Occasional sitting.  Frequent standing and walking. Operating JBT product.

Supervisor Responsibilities- No direct reports.

Degree of Supervision- Works under general supervision. Relies on experience, judgment, and advanced skills to plan and accomplish assigned goals, considering the impact that decisions have on schedule performance. Accountable for product and supplier quality in assigned areas. Creativity is essential to effectively driving continuous improvement, both internally and at vendors.

Relationship Responsibilities- Interfaces with all functional areas to troubleshoot, communicate, and resolve issues. Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues. Communicate with internal customer and suppliers to coordinate and plan upcoming unit inspections. Works directly with vendors to communicate improvement opportunities and facilitate implementation of effective corrective actions. Works with assembly technicians in documenting non-conformances.
