Overview

John Bean Technologies Corporation and its predecessor companies have a long history of technical innovation. JBT traces its roots to 1884 when inventor John Bean developed a new type of spray pump to combat San Jose scale in California's orchards.

Today, JBT Corporation’s AeroTech Division is a world leader in the supply of airport equipment and services focused on the future.  At our Orlando, Florida facility we manufacture airport ground support equipment, including aircraft deicers, aircraft tow tractors, cargo loaders and transporters.  

 

The Quality Control Manager will proactively work with the organization to improve our business processes enabling our organization to respond to all aspects of our customer’s requirements: order execution, delivered quality, service, and maintenance support.

Specific duties include:

  •  Champions lean initiatives through relentless continuous improvement efforts to drive results at all levels of the organization eliminating waste and streamlining processes and procedures.
  • Inspects and tests materials received ensuring established requirements are met. Works to improve and communicates component requirements where found deficient.
  • Develops in-process inspection criteria at various stages in the production process and train technicians to perform inspections and monitor performance.
  • Participates in Engineering design reviews and initiate or recommend improvement actions.
  • Works closely with supply chain, warranty, reliability, and field service to ensure that customer issues are understood, communicated to the appropriate departments, and that permanent corrective actions have been implemented. 
  • Works with the Quality Specialists to ensure all quality issues are addressed and communicated to suppliers, purchasing, engineering, and manufacturing. Determine the root causes of product defects & develop methods for reducing defect reoccurrence. Follow up to ensure that the actions taken are effective.
  • Communicate and publish quality initiatives, results, and lessons learned as appropriate, to strengthen organizational awareness and involvement.
  • Coordinate and participate in ISO & RCI internal and external audits as well as train and mentor internal auditors.
  • Responsible for Plant wide tool calibration ensuring tools requiring calibration are cycled properly and documented.
  • The Quality Control Manager will be responsible for recruiting, hiring and training quality staff. May direct employees in matters of quality and inspection, and assist in disciplining personnel when standards are not met.
  • A successful Quality Control Manager develops and nurtures an environment that promotes Quality as an essential tribute that must be embedded in every aspect of our business process.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science – in an industrial or scientific program of study such as engineering or business administration as well as work experience in Manufacturing, Production & Quality Assurance
  • Master of Science – in an industrial or scientific program of study such as engineering or business administration (preferred)
  • Must have atleast 3 years of experience as Quality Control Manager with a heavy machinery/ capital equipment manufacturer

 

Specialized Knowledge, Equipment, and Applications:

    • Must demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills, interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills- ability to escalate and communicate issues clearly and succinctly in a timely manner
    • Computer skills including high level proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, scheduling and ERP software experience are helpful.
    • Demonstrated managerial experience with ability to delegate and develop resources.
    • Lean and Six Sigma certifications a plus.
    • ISO experience is helpful.
    • Must be proficient in budgeting and use of spreadsheets
    • Knowledge of industry trends and process improvements with the ability to cost effectively implement while improving performance.

Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

  • Certified ISO Auditor
  • ASQ Certification
  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Lean Training

 

Additional Training:

  • Auditing, Inspection Procedures, Production Quality, Quality Economics, Systems of Quality, Operations and Production, Supply Chain Dynamics

OTHER INFORMATION

Special Information (Travel required, physical requirements, work environment, supervisor responsibilities, safety and so on)

Travel - Quality Control manager will travel to customer, vendor other production facility locations as required.

Work Environment- Able to function equally well in an office environment and manufacturing and assembly floor. Adherence to all safety requirements and use of personal protective equipment within the plant is mandatory.

Physical Demands- Significant computer work. Frequent standing and walking around the facility primarily on the factory floor.

Supervisor Responsibilities- Lead, manage and direct a Group Team Lead and 3 to 5 indirect employees. This includes but is not limited to performance management, inductions, training, coaching & discipline.

Relationship Responsibilities- A cross functional role interfacing with all functions of the business, Engineering, Accounting, IT, Manufacturing, Service Parts, Sales, Tactical and Sourcing, Business Planning, HR, Suppliers Customers. Critical role championing quality throughout the organization.
