Overview

SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to ensure that the facilities, layout and machinery used to produce new and existing goods are run to their optimal efficiency and output through preventative maintenance, people management.  By leading the site maintenance department, both reactive and proactive maintenance will be completed in a cost efficient manner while ensuring budgetary constraints are met.  Increase the site’s operational effectiveness, timely project delivery, mean time between failure and down time improvements.  Ensuring compliance with HSE requirements.  KPI measurement and continuous improvement through effective personnel management.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Effectively delegate maintenance issues to be resolved on each shift; small projects to the right skillset on the team, planning and managing effective work schedules
  • Adhere to daily and weekly checks to ensure smooth operation of site
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, ensuring preventative maintenance is carried out, plan-in missed maintenance activities, and lead the team to deliver effective results
  • Schedule both internal and external work assignment(s); minimizing planned down time and reducing unplanned downtime
  • Manage the maintenance team to ensure machine availability, proactively managing dysfunctional machinery with the Shift management
  • Optimize equipment, creating standard procedures when needed, that support safety, performance and product quality and achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements of a variety of electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems are undertaken and completed timely
  • Develop clear accountability for maintenance material spend combined with a strategy to manage expenditure
  • Manage and maintain the accuracy of the Operations Management Software system
  • Manage the introduction of new machinery and equipment; to include drawing up specifications, managing suppliers through installation, and coordinating all contracted work
  • Manage the disposal of obsolete machinery and equipment
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization
  • Provide technical expertise to the team and develop cross-training, as required
  • Develop, implement and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for critical manufacturing equipment
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department
  • Manage contractors on site to ensure they meet legal and company requirements
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of employees and contractors
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing Maintenance team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
  • Set department objectives and conduct performance appraisals of direct reports
  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and effective leadership
  • Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels
  • Review, implement and update company records e.g. training matrices, performance reviews, risk assessments and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems
  • Prepare the annual Maintenance budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensure compliance with legal standards.
  • Manage the budgets from identification to completion of projects
  • Ensure an effective interface with other departmental staff is maintained

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or GED; 5 to 8 years in Maintenance/Management.  Must have or be able to obtain a Mobile Crane, Overhead Crane, and Fork Lift operators licenses.  Working knowledge of hand tools, measuring equipment and solid understanding of technical aspects of plumbing, carpentry, electrical assemblies, etc.  Proven experience as maintenance manager or other managerial role (valid Certified Maintenance Manager (CMM) a plus)

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups.  Ability to effectively present information to variety of employees and managers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Demonstrated knowledge of basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, ratios, etc.).

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization or information exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS: This position requires the following computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  However, when traveling to a customer site, the noise level in the work environment may be loud.
