Job Description – Project Manager, M & A and Special Projects




The role of the Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize projects by managing the constraints of the project management triangle, which are cost, time, scope, and including quality.  This includes acquiring, directing, managing and coordinating team members, sub-project managers, business and technology resources, user groups, internal and external consultants and third-party contractors and consultants to complete the project according to the plan.  This may also require procuring the required information, agreements, material and technology in order to complete the deliverables. 


The Project Manager manages projects typically related to the integration of business processes, technology infrastructure, applications or services to meet identified business needs. They take full responsibility for the satisfactory completion of concurrent projects that have impact on the business.


The Project Manager will be involved in project definition activities.  This includes merger and acquisition due diligence which will be used to define the project’s charter, scope, resources, and timelines.





Strategy, Planning & Execution

  • Participate in merger and acquisition due diligence activities to gain details in order to accurately define project goals, scope, and deliverables that support business and IT goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Plan and Manage the following elements of a project:
    • Project Integration Management
    • Project Scope Management
    • Project Time Management
    • Project Cost Management
    • Project Quality Management
    • Project Human Resource Management
    • Project Communications Management
    • Project Risk Management
    • Project Procurement and Asset Management
    • Project Software License compliance Management
    • Project Stakeholder Management
  • Effectively communicate and manage project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Track project milestones and deliverables against budget.
  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
  • Conduct project post mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify and incorporate successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.
  • Participate in, and lead steering committee meetings, as required.


Acquisition & Deployment

  • Estimate the resources, roles, and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Draft and submit budget proposals, and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
  • Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.
  • Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during project cycle.


Operational Management

  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.
  • Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications and risk management documents.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team, and escalate as required.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Proactively and systematically manage and apply changes in project scope.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Incorporate, seek guidance, and integrate project deliverables with the local business unit management.


Position Requirements


Formal Education & Certification

  • University degree or college diploma in the field of information technology, business administration, or related degree.
  • Certifications in project management, e.g., Prince 2, PMP.


Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience incorporating external vendor resources into internal teams to achieve desired results.
  • At least five years of direct work experience in an IT project management capacity, including all aspects of project management process development and execution.
  • Strong familiarity with project management software, such as LiquidPlanner or Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrated experience with merger and acquisition IT integration project leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel, communications and risk management.
  • Ability to create a team environment utilizing cross-functional resources with differing perspectives and agendas.
  • Outstanding grasp of information technology concepts and processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of the systems development life cycle.

  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
