A&B Process Systems, a business unit of JBT Corporation, is an industry leader in the design, fabrication, automation and installation of stainless steel process systems used in a variety of industries. Position Summary:

This position is responsible for supplier identification, selection, and engagement with estimation and engineering departments for new projects and New Product Development (NPD).  As a Technical Procurement Specialist you will also be involved with procurement of materials, supplies, equipment and services categories for the JBT Stratford, A&B Process Systems Business Unit.  A Technical Procurement Specialist works to develop a supply chain that meets Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost requirements and goals.  The Technical Procurement Specialist helps the procurement function and vendors pursue relentless continuous improvement.  An effective Technical Procurement Specialist also strives to meet or exceed customer service, inventory, quality and financial targets set by management.



  • Ensures early supplier involvement in projects and product development to encourage innovation and allow development of design-to-cost solutions and the implementation of an optimized supply chain for production
  • Works closely with process engineering and estimating to develop sourcing and procurement process for customer bids and projects which helps to drive out cost during the Sales Process. Works with Engineering to develop standard product offerings and price lists that feed the estimating process to ensure the A&B product lines are competitive in the market place.  Develops RFQs and manages the quoting process to ensure a strong competitive bidding process and selection of the best vendor with the lowest overall total cost.
  • Manages sourcing for new product developments (OEM components, instrumentation, fabrications and parts). Participates in developing the Make or Buy strategy.  A key participant in the engineering change process.  Helps to drive the development of component and module standardization across the A&B product lines. 
  • Tracks direct material costs of new products throughout development projects and ensures the ERP item master is setup to procure prototypes as well as allow production to start on time
  • Drives RFQ/RFP for parts and repair kits for the Customer Care business. Leads vendor negotiations and selection.
  • Builds mutually beneficial vendor relationships.
  • Performs vendor negotiation, analysis and selection for assigned commodities and projects based on the Total Cost of Ownership, taking into consideration:
    • Landed cost of materials.
    • Vendor ability to meet delivery, quality and service requirements.
    • Vendor’s commitment to our success and willingness to pursue Relentless Continuous Improvement.
    • Customer support, aftermarket and warranty coverage.
    • Payment and commercial terms.
  • Complies with procurement policies and procedures along with Corporate Financial Standards.  Complies with Corporate contact guidelines in negotiating contracts.
  • Supports Corporate Strategic Sourcing initiatives and provides input to cross functional, multi-site Sourcing Projects following the JBT Corporate Seven Step Sourcing Process.
  • Promotes teamwork within the procurement function and seeks to build a cohesive working team across all departments.
  • Ensures that vendors understand and meet the customer’s requirements for regulatory compliance and documentation to meet ASME, CE, PED and BPE standards when required. 
  • Recommends updates and improvements to purchasing related SOPs and processes as opportunities are identified – promotes efficiency improvements and seeks to create pull systems and inventory levels consistent with a “Just in Time” inventory management philosophy.
  • Participates in daily Gemba walks and team huddles in order to improve performance in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC).
  • Participates in and leads Lean PDCA process improvement projects.



  • Manage sourcing activity coordination and processes for sourcing duties relating to customer projects and new product development including leading or participating in supplier selection, capability assessment, quality improvement, and supplier readiness. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration with a thorough knowledge of purchasing and supply chain management principals is required.  APICs and/or CPM certification is preferred. 
  • At least 2-5 years of technical experience applying fundamental concepts, practices and procedures in defining materials specifications, component selection, testing and quality assurance is necessary for the overall success of this position. On the job experience negotiating supplier contracts and MOU’s a plus. 
  • Knowledge in valves, mixers, heat transfer systems, motor and drive systems, pumps and conveying systems preferred. 
  • Must have a basic understanding of machining and manufacturing processes.  Knowledge of Lean principals of pull, KanBan, and one piece flow desired. Drives process improvement during the early stages of the engineering and procurement process.  
  • A thorough understanding and ability to use all Microsoft software applications (specifically Microsoft Excel) is required.  An ability to analyze data, create pivot tables and charts and develop data driven recommendation using Microsoft Excel is preferred.  Experience with writing Macros in Excel is a plus.   
  • Must display strong analytical skills, interpersonal and written communications, negotiation, financial planning and organizational skills.
