  • Creates, reviews and approves designs, drawings, BOM’s, specifications, etc. and ensures that designs meet specifications, standards and performance requirements.
  • Develops unique solutions for complex technical problems that may include the design of new systems or development of solutions having few or no precedents
  • Uses creativity & independent judgment to formulate results based on principles, experience & constructive thinking.
  • Anticipates potential problems, proactively solves complex problems through creative thinking & internal/external resources.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in mentoring, thinking creatively & project planning.
  • Brings more solutions than problems to the table.
  • Regularly assigned ownership of multiple projects with time sensitive completion schedules.
  • Works with Application Engineering and Customer Service to provide detailed information for quoting machines and parts


  • Duties and Responsibilities

    Creates and reviews, designs, drawings, BOMs, specifications, etc. and ensures that projects meet specifications, standards and performance requirements within area of expertise.

    Uses CAD and database systems and facilities to make layouts, analyze designs, and generate new equipment designs.

    Prepares documentation, information and communications such as ECN’s, e-mails, SharePoint entries and engineering specifications.

    Develops unique solutions for complex technical problem that may include the design of new systems or development of solutions having few or no precedents.

    Plans and defines project schedule.

    Interprets and applies relevant policies and procedures.

    Leader in setting objectives for projects.

    Assist with the development of new professionals.

    Uses creativity and independent judgment to formulate results based on principles, experience and constructive thinking.

    Demonstrates excellent organizational skills.

    May be required to travel to various JBT and/or customers’ sites inside and outside of the U.S.

    Consults with other departments on equipment designs and problems. Identifies root cause of problems.  Develops alternative solutions and communicates associated benefits and risks.

    Uses advanced product line knowledge to help Application Engineering and Customer Service create complex quotes for machines and parts.

    Attends appropriate industry related professional society meetings and functions in order to stay informed of and make good use of new technology, products and personal development opportunities.

    Often a leader on specific product standardization and R&D activities.

    May be required to travel to various JBT and/or customers’ sites inside and outside of the U.S.



  • What are the minimum qualifications an employee must have in order to perform the duties of the position? (I.e. educational requirements, licenses, certification, work experience, training etc.)?

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering and preferred PE license.
    • Typically at least (4) or more years relevant experience in machine & system design. MS in Mechanical Engineering plus (3) or more years experience. PhD with (2) or more years experience
    • Expert knowledge of at least one JBT product line or significant knowledge of multiple technologies, products & applications preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to independently create functional & cost effective designs/processes that meet complex specification requirements.
    • Demonstrated ability to apply advanced laws, principles, theorems & mathematics or industry knowledge in the improvement & development of technologies.
    • Solid understanding of internal economic factors affecting assignment areas (costs, margins, profit impact of decisions) and the overall site.
    • Ability to use 2D/3D CAD Systems
    • Has or can obtain a valid Passport.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Describe amount & frequency of physical requirements of the position (i.e. lifting, pushing, climbing)
    • Spend most of the time in an office environment.
    • Spends 65% of the time sitting and operating a computer or workstation, 5% percent in the shop and 30% at customer sites.
    • Possible exposure to hazards such as noise, heavy equipment, temperature extremes, chemicals, etc. while working on the shop floor, assembly areas and field service applications.
    • Physical demands when working at customer sites may include ability to bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, reach above shoulders, walk and lift up to 50 pounds throughout work day. May carry materials up to 50 pounds for distances up to 20’.
    • May be subject to inclement weather conditions.
