We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Designer.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This is an advanced position, where detailed mechanical drawings, designs, bill of materials for customer approval, shop fabrication for skidded systems or tanks, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and ASME pressure vessels can be conceptualized, developed, tested & perfected.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collects the engineer’s and customer’s specifications and creates accurate mechanical drawings with the appropriate level of detail by following drawing standards.
  • Work may include creation of previously non-existent products or modifications of existing products; and may include responding to a customer request for a particular product or design (the typical cycle includes conceptualizing, developing prototypes, testing and perfecting designs).
  • Process minor load calculations required, beam calculations and or calculate agitator and torsional loads for review by an Engineer.
  • Develops mechanism designs for ‘fit and finish’.
  • Completes and submits customer approval drawings on projects, and provides correspondence to customers regarding approval drawings.
  • Contacts the customer and/or project manager with questions related to drawings.
  • Reviews the proposal with estimators and completes a bill of materials for the project.
  • Ability to provide material requisitions, additional work authorization, estimates, and project management.
  • Monitors and initiates additional change orders for appropriate drawing changes.
  • Recognizes and identifies BPE (Pharmaceutical grade) requirements along with sanitary and good manufacturing practices.
  • Complete understanding of weld symbols and welding processes.
  • Meets or exceeds project deadlines.
  • Develops conceptual R&D designs and assists with testing in the FAT center for all R&D product lines.
  • Maintains and develops existing and new customers through the application of A&B’s products and services to customers’ problems/opportunities through the design cycle.
  • Identifies areas of improvement that will eliminate waste, improve productivity while supporting safe work practices.
  • Accountable for understanding estimated vs. actual material cost and production hours and is able to ensure design and concept is accurate.
  • May perform Project Management duties including FAT hosting and coordination.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Associates degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 – 8 years of mechanical design experience and proven leadership skills. The candidate must have working knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor software for the completion of required drawings. A thorough understanding and ability to use all Microsoft software applications is required as well. 

 

This position requires minimal supervision, and demonstrates creativity and ingenuity, while defining technical approaches to projects. Is able to draw solutions from a wider range of experience; and is generally more proficient at solving problems in a timely manner.
