Technical Customer Service


  • The incumbent will properly install, demonstrate, and service our packaging equipment in remote locations.
  • This position will also work closely with our Product Development and Assembly departments to maintain a thorough understanding of the design and assembly of our equipment.
  • Also work with the Machines and Parts Business Unit, Clips Business Unit, and internal manufacturing units to understand the daily functions and responsibility of these departments as well as keeping up to date on the core technology of our consumable product lines.


  • Receives customer phone request that requires quick troubleshooting resolution globally.
  • Ensure the proper installation, demonstration, and service of machines/equipment at customer sites. Works with Technical Service Manager to develop and maintain skills and understand requirements in regards to customer support (internal / external) and travel / work expectations.
  • Works with Product Development to thoroughly understand the specifications, operation, maintenance, and configuration of the equipment sold by the Company.          
  • Works with our Assembly department to thoroughly understand the configuration, setup, functionality, and components used on equipment sold by the Company.
  • Works within the Clips, and Machine and Parts business units to understand the daily flow of critical business activities.
  • Works within Clip and Loop manufacturing units to understand the core technology of our consumable products business.
  • Assists Technical Service Manager in responding to customer inquiries and requests for technical assistance. Reports recurring technical questions and/or complaints to the Product Development Department. May work with Product Development to create technical bulletins to correct product problems. Works with customer service representatives on unusually complex parts orders. Works with other internal departments (Assembly, Parts) to answer technical questions on machine functionality and parts. May create and execute training courses for internal and external personnel.
  • Write all trip reports and/or machine installation reports in a timely fashion and add them to Salesforce.com after performing work at customer sites.
  • May perform troubleshooting activities on manufacturing equipment.
  • May work with sales personnel on technical aspects of sales quotes for new machinery. May accompany sales personnel to customer site and assist in quote presentation by providing technical information.  
  • When in Apex office participate in daily operations of Test Kitchen, Includes following Test Kitchen Duty Rules to ensure a; Safe, Efficient, Clean work environment while following proper PPE guidelines set for the Test Kitchen.
  • Participate in Training & Learning of Equipment; regarding Rebuilds, Overhauls, returned on Customer RMA’s. Responsible for Equipment Evaluation, Setup, and Testing of Production Equipment purchased for Customer shipment delivery.
  • Perform programming of PLC, HMI, Servo Drive components to be delivered to Customers Site. Learn and perform established processes for proper documentation of work performed daily. 
  • Perform RMA Clipper Repairs as billable revenue following the Clipper Return Process.
  • Perform RMA Sub – Assembly Repairs as billable revenue following Return Process.
  • Answer incoming Customer phone calls that involve Technical Support.
  • May perform other reasonable duties as requested by supervisor.



·         Minimum Associate’s Degree in engineering, electrical or mechanical systems, or other related discipline, or an equivalent/acceptable amount of industry experience.

Professional Experience:

·         Must have above-average mechanical aptitude to include a working knowledge of mechanical and electrical components, automated equipment and PLC-controlled machinery, as well as troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical components.

·         Must have ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.

·         Must possess the ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with customers – both at the plant management level and the line manager level.

·         Must possess and continually demonstrate an understanding of applicable OSHA regulations, including machine guarding requirements and lock out/tag out requirements.

·         Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.

·         Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

·         Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

·         Must be able to travel to customer sites throughout the contingent United States, including air travel and vehicular travel. Flexibility to travel on short notice and occasional weekend work/travel will be required to meet business needs.

·         Must be able to travel internationally, when needed, a valid passport is required.

·         Must possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to rent a car for use during travel.


Additional Required [Preferred] Education/Skills:

·         Minimum of five years’ experience working in technical support for mechanical systems, preferably with additional experience in machine installation and assembly.

·         Previous experience in the food manufacturing industry is highly preferred.

·         Previous experience working on Tipper Tie equipment in a processing plant.

·         Previous experience as a trainer for technical subjects.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

·         Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and perform a variety of installation and modification tasks.

·         Position requires long periods of standing, stooping and bending.

·         Utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory, including: safety shoes and safety glasses when working in the manufacturing area.

·         Noise level varies between a moderate (office area) and high level (manufacturing area.)

·         Incumbent must be able to travel to and work at customer sites in the US and internationally.
