Overview

A&B Process Systems, a business unit of JBT Corporation, is an industry leader in the design, fabrication, automation and installation of stainless steel process systems used in a variety of industries. At A&B Process Systems, our quality stainless steel process vessels, stainless steel process modules, skidded systems and process automation systems are all developed at one location in Stratford, Wisconsin. We have an immediate opportunity for a Relentless Continuous Improvement Manager.

The Relentless Continuous Improvement (RCI) Manager will be responsible for developing A&B Process Systems into a Continuous Improvement culture and as a result evolving it into a Lean Enterprise organization. This will occur through training/coaching/mentoring associates and facilitating process improvement initiatives as well as supporting continuous improvement at other JBT sites, and with suppliers and customers.  This requires a self-directed leader, with effective communication skills; verbal, non-verbal, written and listening. The RCI Manager must have a thorough business and operations background and possess the confidence required to challenge the “status quo” and instill the discipline to follow defined processes.  Exhibit a strong knowledge in continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints.  Having passion for idea generation, root cause analysis and a relentless pursuit of successful operational improvement initiatives are also necessary for overall success of this position.  Experience required working with Suppliers and Customers on continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve A&B Process Systems into a “Relentless Continuous Improvement” culture
  • Working with employees at all levels of the organization to go from being “Firefighters” to “Improver/Growers”.       Emphasize cultural change at the management level.
  • Knowing, understanding, and supporting Visual Management System methodology and execution:
    • Working with Sr. Leadership for the development of JBT Excellence Model (JEM) initiatives to support growth objectives captured on the Strategy board
    • Working with the management team to develop annual BPI’s for the Site board
    • Assisting departments with developing applicable Safety Quality Delivery Cost (SQDC) criteria, using data to identify gaps in process, and scoping out improvement projects on Team Improvement Boards (TIB)
    • Supporting the Run the Business board scope and definition
    • Developing additional boards as necessary to further broaden top to bottom communication of A&B’s goals/objectives and performance.
    • Asking key questions and leading discussions during TIB huddles and Gemba Walks that will deter CI complacency
  • Train/Coach/Mentor employees at all levels of the organization on the tools and methods that support a continuous improvement culture. Coordinate the development of an organization-wide RCI training plan and ensure new-hire orientations include RCI training.
  • Develop and conduct specific training on the use of continuous improvement process tools:
    • 5S and visual management
    • Brain storming and problem solving
    • Project plans and project planning
    • Team building and team dynamics
    • Kaizen events
    • Process and Value Stream Mapping, SIPOC
    • PDCA, DMAIC, 4-sqaure and A3 problem solving formats
    • Six Sigma, Lean, Lean Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints Methodologies

 

  • Function as a project manager for the facilitation of large scale cross functional process improvement projects
    • Coordination of annual development and management of overall site transformation plan
    • Project Status Reporting as needed
    • Escalation of issues with suggested mitigation strategies.
    • Addressing concerns as required ensuring active participation and good Team Dynamics.
    • Initiating and leading fact finding, brain storming and root cause analysis
  • Mentor Project Leads and Team members in best practices associated with process improvement methodologies and tools.
  • Transition A&B Process Systems into a continuous improvement culture via developing a critical mass of problem solvers
  • Responsible for understanding and overcoming the barriers for change
  • Identify, collect, and analyze data as a means to justify the creation of new processes/procedures and changes to existing process/procedures
  • Develop statistical/analytical tests to identify process variation(s) (Design of Experiments DOE) and to confirm processes are in control
  • Development of project plans including timelines, budget, scope and requirements and execution of such plans including training and transitioning to end user departments
  • Acquiring approval of budgets and resources required for successful execution of project initiatives
  • Must lead by example and role model key leadership characteristics such as honesty, integrity, trust, enthusiasm, approachability, diplomacy and a team “can do” attitude. Support the best of JBT’s ideals.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities that are linked to business goal results. Demonstrate results through performance measurement and analysis.
  • Collaborate with Department Managers and Group Leads to help identify departmental areas of improvement that eliminates waste and improves productivity while supporting safe work practices.
  • Support safety as a top priority - in training, job design, ergonomics, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support of A&B Process Systems/JBT’s Guiding Principles of Integrity, Accountability, Relentless Improvement, and Teamwork (IART)
  • Participate in broader JBT RCI initiatives as required, including site audits, functional team meetings and training.
  • Occasional travel as required
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or Business Related field with a minimum of 3 – 5 years in a Project Management role; leading Teams through the project management life cycle is required. Experience in a Lean Enterprise environment is highly preferred; experience in an operations/manufacturing design/build to order environment a plus. Experience in training and cultural change management is highly preferred.  Prior management experience highly preferred. 

 

Excellent facilitation/project management skills required. Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints principles required; formal training and/or certification a plus.  Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Project required; experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio a plus.  Strong understanding of general business processes a plus.
